it’s funny how i’ve only started wearing gladiator flats now when the craze over it had died and other fashion experts have actually said it ‘is’ dead. nah, the hell with trends, i never go along with most of them anyway and i love them now and that’s all that matters. come to think of it, i never did like going with the crowd too much. not that i do it on purpose but sometimes i just allow everything crazy to pass before i start looking at it and get interested in it like how i’ve only started reading the Harry Potter series right when everybody else was on Book 4. i started reading the series on semestral break 2002 and boy did i catch up with everyone then by reading all the first 3 books over the 2-week break. or like when a song is all everyone can talk (or sing) about and i only stop and listen to it when everyone else has moved on to the next. i guess the craze over something distracts me from the actual purpose or meaning of the thing or i guess this is just some crazy bullshit i have in me just because i grew up a weird middle child. LOL.
so anyway, my family and i had an early trip to Simala today so we can give our thanksgiving and also send our petitions to Mama Mary. i am spiritual at most but also religious on a few occasions. i’m not a perfect catholic but i do have a strong faith in something bigger than us. everything i do, i put 100% in and the rest i pray for. as the trip was due south, we couldn’t help but drop by the shoe capital of Cebu — Carcar and buy ourselves some shoes too. my mom and sisters bought themselves some ballet flats for only P300 ($6) and we all bought TOMs-like espadrilles from a local store there for only P300 ($6) too!

Sensible Wishes
Besides good health and time spent with my family, here my sensible birthday wishes this year:
Books by Haruki Murakami and Jane Austen
Lessons
Lessons on pattern making and sewing:
And the most sensible of all, more flat shoes for all the errands I have to run:
ps. I know the Jeffrey Campbells are not flats. I have been secretly desiring them for months now! Who hasn’t right?
11 more days to go before my birthday — the books are available at Fully Booked or National Bookstore and the painting materials can be found in Visayan Bookstore or National Bookstore. The shoes??? Well, I accept local ones inspired by these amazing ones! *wink*

slow addiction
as a teen, i could never understand my big sister’s addiction to shoes. it was unfathomable to me how she can spend huge sums of money on shoes when all you need is one pair of sandals, a pair of closed shoes, rubber shoes for playing sports and slippers. there was a point in my life where i would wear slippers everywhere when i was off work. i just needed to be comfortable. oh, i was so damn wrong!
i thought about writing this because last week, while i was working and typing away at my computer, i suddenly thought about shoes and it made me feel better. i come in an hour earlier than everyone else at work (no, i’m not a goody two-shoes girl — my shift calls me to do so..haha!) and i suddenly thought about the vintage rose heels i saw at CMG and i wanted to abandon work and cross the street to ayala mall and just buy a pair. i am saving for our bangkok trip so of course i couldn’t buy it but just the thought of doing so made me smile.
so now, i don’t just need 4 pairs of footwear…i need 2 pairs of each classic color (tan, brown, white, black and grey — one for casual outfits (like cut-out heels or gladiator heels) and a closed-one (maybe a peep-toe one) for when i like to dress-up. i also need several pairs of colored ballet flats (probably with rhinestones or studs or in animal print) and studded, beaded or fringed sandals. i still kept all my havaianas slippers as i still do adore them.
what apparel are you finding yourself addicted to these days?

my pinch of rock + ode to my shoes
i love dresses. i love vintage. i love lace and embroidered tops. i love the 40’s mixed with the boho 60’s. but i also love my share of rock — just a pinch is all good for me. i love (and hate at the same time) that when people see me, they’d immediately assume that i go out, go clubbing and am super into dance hits but would be surprised and somehow confused at knowing my music choices. ever since i sang back-up for my cousin’s indie rock band sheila and the insects (yes, my cousin is ian zafra), i have been hooked into new wave, punk, electronic and indie rock music. (a bit of influence came from having dated someone in a rock band too..LOL) i look for those quirky and captivating beats and the deep, sarcastic and even smart-ass lyrics.
the smiths | the killers | kings of leon | temper trap | the national | broken social scene | band of horses | the ting tings | keane | coldplay | the cure | the honorary title | smashing pumpkins | death cab for cutie
these are just some of my favorite bands and they make sucky days bearable for me.
now about my shoes…welp, i think it’s dead. my first ever forever 21 shoes (which is a big deal for me as we don’t have it here in PI) is dying. they say in fashion, we need a bit of sacrifice. it was sacrificed indeed. it didn’t die in vain i assure you. it served it’s purpose by being my friend’s shoes in a recent photo shoot we did. just us friends, having fun. even with my non-dslr camera. for the photos, you’d have to hold on to your seats. (or not..hehe)
(ps. and to my friend, if you do read this — do not feel guilty. i’m gonna’ miss those shoes but they are replaceable. friends are not.)

i’m in love…and always will be.
the four mini-cakes that made me smile. and made me forget all my worries and frustrations. one or two is nice but four? i love it! and i couldn’t ask for more. we had lunch at our fave vietnamese restaurant, lemon grass and ordered all the food we could stuff our faces with — spicy and sour seafood soup, grilled spare ribs and pad thai noodles. it’s so funny because harry ordered two bottles of light beer and got tipsy right after! he was wobbling a bit in broad daylight!
i’d like to thank everyone for the sweet advice and comments on my previous post. after letting it all out, i rationalized the situation and decided to take the high road. i am their team leader and i realized that i have yet again expected too much maturity from my team. they need guidance. they need to be seen on the same level. i have decided to not ignore them but to help them. so last night, after hearing them rant (again!), i took a deep breathe, sat beside them and looked them in eye, asking what exactly happened. i wrote a serious e-mail, asking for help from the managers and will be taking it from there.
*crossing my fingers and still wishing they won’t rant so much*
