a mistake i got to make

i’m already 25 years old and will be turning 26 this august. in the philippines, even when we live in a modern world, that age is still somehow a cause for alarm if we’re not yet settled — whether in our careers, love life or family life. i am not going to lie. i am immensely scared about this leap that i am going to take. i finally talked to our manager today and he gave me this “your-a-woman-who-can-do-great-things” speech and saying that i am almost the next level, that i have worked so hard to succeed in an industry that i am good at. he wanted me to plan out my life in the next 5 years outside the company (or industry) and compare it with a plan inside the company. i smiled with all my courage and said, “i know that i am good at my job but i don’t want to be doing something that i hate for a long time. honestly, i don’t plan to plan for the next month.”
in ‘how i met your mother’ season 1, lily told ted that going to san francisco may be a mistake but it’s a mistake that she has to make and that a bigger mistake would be not being able to find out if it’s a mistake or not. (ted totally got side-tracked over the number of mistakes in the sentence)… i know it’s confusing but i really still do think and feel that i have to do this.
sorry if i am boring you with three successive posts about my plan to leave my current job. it’s been in my mind for the past week — every day for that matter. just wanted to let it all out. thanks for listening. better topics next week, promise. *wink*

  1. Such a cute outfit! Can't ever go wrong with a classic black blazer! 🙂

I love HIMYM!! The end of season 1 is so sad but you (and Lily) are right: sometimes you gotta make the mistake to find out whether or not it is a mistake. You've got the right attitude; you'll definitely succeed! All the best again!! 🙂

  2. Gizelle! Don't worry about what your readers will say. Write about what you feel. Write about what you think. Write for yourself and not for others.

At times, I feel like I don't want to post about some of my “problems” or something serious and personal or political or social. Because it may drive readers away.

But you know, If they don't like it, so what? We have lives outside fashion, life beyond blogging about our new shoes and clothes, life apart blogging the fun stuff.

I get what you mean. I put my thesis on hold and in my livejournal blog, I talked about my thesis all the time, till now it's in my head. What's best about writing is we write what's close to our hearts.

I don't know for others but I like reading blogs related to a person's personal matters. It makes them human. It makes me feel like we're just the same. And that's what makes me inspired. Real people. Real feelings.

Hahaha. Ang haba. But I can just relate. And madaldal talaga ako in general. Hahaha.

  4. great post, gizelle! you're unbelievable person! i know what you feel – i'll be 22 this year and i feel so divided! on the one hand, i feel that the whole world is in my hands, but on the other hand – life brings disappointment and not everything is like i would like to be…. and i haven't seen HIMYM eyt! how's this possible?! ps; i used word 'feel' 3 times in the same sentence… lol

THIS. i say go for whatever makes you happy & fulfilled. i feel the exact same way about something lately, so i'm sending over lots of good vibes in whatever it is you're planning for yourself. you seem like a brave & independent woman, & i'm pretty sure it'll all work out for you in the end. 🙂

  6. Thanks Gizelle for being so frank in your blog (which I think is so great and thanks for bringing a perspective from the PI to the fashion blogging world!) I'm a Filipina-Canadian who just turned 30 a couple weeks ago and have been thinking the same questions as well…it doesn't change I guess when you get older and no matter where you live! Sometimes you just have to go for it b/c you only live once. Better to regret the things you have done than to regret not doing anything at all (cliche but true!) Sending over lots of good vibes as well – you'll make the right decision 🙂

  8. You look so adorable and chic. Black and white is DEFINITELY a win.

I really hope that you're able to find a job you love! You're right: there's definitely a huge difference between doing something you're good at and something that you LOVE. I hope you find a job that fulfills both of these aspects.

    And happy early birthday!

Thanks so much for stopping by!
